About School Meals for Australia
School Meals for Australia is a national not-for-profit initiative advocating for a future where every Australian student has access to a nutritious meal during the school day. We believe that no child should be disadvantaged in their education because of hunger or food insecurity, and that every student deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and succeed.
Working alongside schools, communities, industry and government, we are building the case for a fully funded universal school meals program across Australia. Through research, advocacy and strong partnerships, our mission is to ensure that access to healthy school meals becomes a permanent part of Australia's education system—supporting student wellbeing, improving learning outcomes and strengthening communities.
Founding story
School Meals for Australia was founded by Canberra student leader Mose’ Taiatini after recognising the effect that food insecurity and inconsistent access to meals can have on a student’s ability to participate in school.
The organisation is being developed around the belief that school food support should be practical, dignified and supported by strong partnerships.
Founder profile
Mose’ is a Canberra student leader with experience in school leadership, hospitality and youth-led community initiatives.
He founded School Meals for Australia to explore practical ways that schools, businesses and communities can work together to reduce hunger as a barrier to education.
Mose’ is currently leading the initial development, consultation and partnership-building process. Formal governance arrangements and an independent board are intended to be established before the delivery of any school meal program.
Founding board recruitment
School Meals for Australia is currently seeking qualified founding directors and advisers with experience in:
school leadership;
nutrition and dietetics;
food safety;
finance;
charity governance;
law;
logistics;
fundraising;
child safety; and
program evaluation.
Governance and Transparency
Trust must be earned through responsible decision-making, transparent reporting and clear accountability.
School Meals for Australia intends to publish key governance and program information as the organisation develops.
